Another retreat concludes, and the little family that was created have scattered onward. Some to their homes and some to continue the journey they have begun. The sentiment, I feel, seems to be vindictive to others is the ‘we’ created is still in ‘me’. What a gift.
The Haelan Retreat was brilliant, expansive, inspiring transformational for some, nurturing for all. Belonging and connection unfolded like a lotus flower, leaving no question of its gift like presence. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to create and hold these containers for those who hear the call. I’m so grateful for Michele Chaban for coming to facilitate this Haelan retreat and share her life of knowledge and wisdom. Conversations and meditations with Michele were cherished by all. Romping the landscapes and seascapes soggy or sun drenched was pure medicine.
The days were full of contemplations and explorations to inward and outward sacred terrains. Early in the week we’d hear one another say, “wow, we have done so much and we have just finished day one” then “I can’t believe we are only two days in” Then somehow we made it to “what, how could it be time to leave already.” Dear Time, you are a trickster.
Changes to 2020 plans are only affording me the time for one retreat in Ireland. That will be May 10-16. The August dates were cancelled. Apologies for those who were hoping for a summer retreat. For those who would like to join me in May or have spoken to others that have shown interest, please have them reach out to me soon. It’s half full already. https://www.mindfulnecessities.com/pages/brochure-ireland
Now it’s time to step into the shoes of the pilgrim and prepare to kiss the earth with my feet and loving intention. Excited for the opportunity to walk from darkness to light, amidst a thousand year old path stomped out of contemplation, determination and intention.
When walking a pilgrimage it’s pretty safe to imagine that what brings you joy will show up. It’s also quite guaranteed that whatever agitates and challenges you will also show up. This makes it a powerful practice.
Last night I was having a conversation with a friend over a situation she had that was awkward. We both simultaneously arrived at the humour of being human and an opportunity to practice compassion. Not to be confused with pacifity. Dear Thay would often say to all that arises that it’s an opportunity to practice. Practice mindfulness, practice deep listening, practice remaining present. Practice fierce compassion, including towards the self. This pilgrimage will be all that and I am taking you with me.

If you are in Toronto on Nov 9th, 12-4, there is a wonderful opportunity to practice together and benefit the disadvantaged at the same time. The Mindfulness Challenge is in its 4th year and is totally worth attending.
I am aiming to return to Canada in time because I love it so much. This year’s theme is Clear Mind and Open Heart. Who doesn’t want to live with a clearer mind and a more open heart. Would you like to join me?
This day of mindfulness is heart opening with clarity and connection. Anyone can do it! The program features an incredible variety of mindfulness practices. With guidance by mindfulness teacher trainer extraordinaire Susan Woods and movement guru Roberta Mohler, it's an amazing way for beginners to dive in, and for experienced meditators to ride the wave of so many people practising together.
We can support bringing mindfulness for mental health to marginalized people who live with depression, anxiety and other mental health challenges, by participating in Mindfulness Challenge 2019 and asking friends, family and others to sponsor us. It’s a beautiful gift to ourselves and others.
